Colorado potatoes are famous across the United States. But what makes them so successful?
As with most such success stories, there is a group of hard-working, dedicated people behind the helm. In this case, we’re talking about the Colorado Potatoes Shippers and Colorado Potatoes Growers consortium, overseen by the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee.
This is a tight-knit group of potato growers and shippers who work together to create the best product, with the best variety and most reliable shipping and delivery possible.
Due to its central location in the country, Colorado Potatoes Shippers and Growers can branch out quite easily to the four geographical extremes of the nation. The well-developed San Luis Valley, surrounded by the breathtaking Rocky Mountains, is ideal country for potato growing. At 7,600 feet in elevation, the San Luis Valley is the highest – and largest – such crop producing area in the world.
The CPAC, (the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee), has overseen the vast, 67,000-acre Valley for reliable growing and shipping quality since the 1940s, on both the federal and state level. This organization is comprised of dozens of committees, representing the interests of some 230 Colorado Potatoes Shippers, as well as the ultimate consumer. Year after year, they research and make decisions on every imaginable subject that can possibly improve their output, image and quality on every level.
With state-of-the-art planning and production, and hundreds of dedicated planners and workers behind it, the humble Colorado Potato has earned the right to its slogan: “Quality at its Peak.”
